This place has a significance ...
Comprises the final stanza of a longer poem, "The Day is Done," (1844, H.W. Longfellow). Longfellow has crossed our path with increasing frequecy beginning with a culture wide rediscovery of, and my first exposure to Longfellow's Christmas Bells (1863-4, H.W. Longfellow), which was written during the height of the Civil War and turned into a carol in 1872 -- which is how we first heard it.
